Jacobs Vehicle Systems to supply Detroit Diesel Corporation with Jake Brake® brand engine brakes for 2007 engines.
Bloomfield, CT, May 9th, 2005 -- Jacobs Vehicle Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of Danaher Corporation (NYSE: DHR) and manufacturer of the legendary Jake Brake®, is developing the Jake Brake® engine brake in conjunction with Detroit Diesel Corporation (DDC) for their 2007 Series 60® engine platform.
The current 797 on-highway model will be replaced by the 797B model and continued to be offered on the Series 60® engines, while the current 797A off-highway applications will remain the same. Jacobs anticipates shipping over 40,000 797B model Jake Brake® engine brakes in 2007.
Jacobs Vehicle Systems is excited to continue their strong relationship with Detroit Diesel Corporation. “The Series 60® engine has a strong brand name and is well recognized in the North American Heavy Duty truck market and we are proud to be associated with that,” stated Bob Perkins, VP of Marketing. Jacobs and DDC began their association in the early 1960’s, and through the years Jacobs has developed no less than 18 Jake Brake® models for Detroit Diesel engines.
Today’s trucking community must deal with ever increasing demands on their vehicle braking systems with increased loads, higher operating speeds and the reduction of aerodynamic drag. The Jake Brake® provides the retarding power needed to combat these daily driving conditions so that operators can confidently control their truck, while simultaneously reducing wear on their service brakes. The Jake Brake® works by turning a power-producing diesel engine into a power-absorbing air compressor, releasing highly compressed air through the exhaust system to improve vehicle slowing and control.
