JACOBS VEHICLE SYSTEMS & DETROIT DIESEL DESIGN BETTER BRAKE
Cooperative Design Efforts Yield the Robust Model 795
BLOOMFIELD, Conn., September 13, 2000 -- Jacobs Vehicle Systems™ (www.jakebrake.com--a wholly-owned subsidiary of Danaher Corporation -- NYSE: DHR) announces the Jacobs Engine Brake™, Model 795 for Detroit Diesel Series 60® engines. The new brake develops 5% (22 HP) more braking horsepower than its predecessor, is easier to service, and is designed for improved reliability.
A Cooperative Development Effort
Jacobs Vehicle Systems prides itself on its cooperative design efforts with the major diesel engine manufacturers. Neil Fuchs, Senior Engineer for Jacobs states "We worked with Detroit Diesel's design team to redesign the Series 60®'s cam lobe to maximize braking horsepower. Our new 795 brake and simpler lash mechanism work with this new cam to maximize braking horsepower." The result, is a total of 445 retarding horsepower, a 5% gain over the last model produced.
Serviceability & Reliability
The J-Lash™ system is being replaced with a simple adjusting screw, made possible by the cam change. There is no "bleed down" procedure -- just set and go! This means easier serviceability, as well as improved reliability with the new design having no moving parts. Lower housing pressures also result from the design change.
Available with Engine Change
The new Model 795 is available only on Series 60® 12.7 Liter Standard, Economy, and Premium engines manufactured after August 9, 2000 when the cam change takes place. No retrofit kits will be made available for engines produced before this date. Engines produced before this date should purchase the Model 790 (for engines produced between 12/15/99 and 8/8/00). The 14 Liter engines are expected to be changed over at the end of the year.
