PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BLOOMFIELD, Conn., November 21, 2003 -- Jacobs Vehicle Systems™ (www.jakebrake.com--a wholly-owned subsidiary of Danaher Corporation - NYSE: DHR) today announces the expansion of its technology-leading product line with the launch of the Model 965 integrated engine subsystem for Hino Motors Ltd. of Japan. The Model 965 will supply the valve timing for both retarding and Internal Exhaust Gas Recirculation (IEGR) for Hino's new E13C on-highway truck diesel engine, which launches this fall in Japan.

Success Through Mutual Cooperation
The 965 is the result of close coordination between Hino Motors Ltd. of Japan, and Jacobs Vehicle Systems of the U.S.A. “Through close cooperation between Hino Motors and Jacobs, we have been able to design and manufacture a valve motion system to support Hino’s engine retarding and emissions needs in one compact, robust product” states Vice President of Marketing, Bob Perkins. “The result is a true breakthrough in engine system optimization.”

Emissions & Retarding Coupled
IEGR (Internal Exhaust Gas Recirculation) can provide a significant reduction in diesel engine nitrous oxide (NOX) emissions. It is an attractive alternative and/or supplement to cooled-EGR, benefiting from lower initial cost, enabled by streamlined packaging, reduced weight and reduced cooling demands for the engine.

CRR (Compression-Release Retarding) provides vehicle retarding capability utilizing the diesel engine as an air compressor to improve vehicle slowing and control. This function significantly reduces wear of the service brakes and contributes to improved drivability of the vehicle.

Since both the IEGR and the CRR systems utilize the engine's exhaust valves, the common operating system was a natural development for Jacobs, a world leader in valve movement. Jacobs has utilized its proven Jake Brakeâ design and manufacturing technology to help meet Hino’s very high reliability goals for this new emissions technology.
