Jacobs Vehicle Systems™ REORGANIZES TO MEET STRATEGIC PLAN
Focus on Integrated Braking Technology Efforts and E-Commerce Strategy
BLOOMFIELD, Conn., May 25, 2000 -- Jacobs Vehicle Systems™ (www.jakebrake.com--a wholly-owned subsidiary of Danaher Corporation - NYSE: DHR) announces a company reorganization designed to focus more efforts on the strategic direction of both the product and company, with a team dedicated to the success of integrated engine braking and the implementation of e-Commerce activity.
Integrated Braking Technology
President of Jacobs Vehicle Systems Gary Masse states "Jacobs Vehicle Systems is a true innovator in designing the next generation of engine retarding, and we are assigning the proper resources to take these products into the mainstream. Engine braking technology is moving from the traditional "bolt on" approach to integration. Jacobs and Cummins have been the leaders in this evolution with the introduction of the jointly developed Intebrake® for the Cummins ISX Engine. The benefits of integration are significant weight reduction (up to 80%), and 20-25% gain in retarding horsepower. As the desire and need for integrated engine retarding increases, Jacobs Vehicle Systems is reorganizing to focus specifically on the success for adaptation of this technology." Former Jacobs Vehicle Systems Business Manager Jackie DeMatos has been named Program Manager for this effort. Ms. DeMatos will lead a dedicated team consisting of machining, assembly and manufacturing engineers to focus on the development and application of this technology.
Technical direction will be provided by newly named Vice President/Chief Technical Officer Adish Jain. Jain will lead research and technology efforts according to Jacobs Vehicle Systems strategic plan taking a strong role across the company driving technology, planning, technical excellence and engineering standard work.
e-Commerce
Former Jacobs Vehicle Systems Business Team Manager Susan Coyne has been named Director - e-Commerce & Aftermarket. Ms. Coyne is tasked with developing and implementing a company-wide e-Commerce strategy for Jacobs, and has responsibility for improving the quality, delivery and cost of Jacobs' Aftermarket business. This effort is aligned with a Danaher-wide initiative to address the opportunities of e-Commerce. Coyne states that "A sound e-Commerce strategy will better align Jacobs Vehicle Systems with both our supply base and our diesel engine manufacturing partners to improve delivery and reduce costs for everyone." This strategy naturally yields benefits in Coyne's aftermarket responsibility. "The bottom line is that Jacobs Vehicle Systems will be more efficient and effective at serving our customers as a result of the resources and programs recently put into place, and I'm excited to be a part of it." The group focused on this effort is comprised of purchasing, operations, engineering and information systems personnel, both on the supply and sell sides of the company.
