NEW FACTORY-INSTALLED JAKE BRAKE® ENGINE BRAKE DESIGN FOR 2000 DETROIT DIESEL® Series 60® ENGINES
New, high-performance engine brake the result of cooperative relationship with EOEM
BLOOMFIELD, Conn., December 15, 1999 -- Jacobs Vehicle Systems™ (www.jakebrake.com--a wholly-owned subsidiary of Danaher Corporation – NYSE: DHR) today announced the release of its most recent successful design achievement, the Jake Brake® Model 790 Engine Brake for the Detroit Diesel (DDC®) Series 60® engines. The new, more powerful Model 790 is a factory-installed option from DDC®, and is available to all vehicle manufacturers. The Model 790 is available as of DDC®'s start of production for the 2000 model year.
A Cooperative Development Effort
Jacobs Vehicle Systems' Vice President of Market Development Scott Fowler comments, "This brake was designed in partnership with DDC®'s engine design teams. The product of these efforts yields a more integrated and simplified design, which significantly reduces the brake's total weight by one-third, and more importantly, creates an even more powerful and reliable brake." With the new design, the total number of parts and sub-components is reduced, and retarding is increased at both rated and mid-range speeds (by 5% and 11% respectively).
Available for all Series 60® Engines
The Model 790 is currently being shipped to DDC® and is available for the beginning of the Series 60® 2000 product run. The 790 has several configurations to fit all current DDC® Series 60® engines as well. DDC® and Jacobs Vehicle Systems have been very pleased with the growth in their relationship that formally began in 1997. The Model 790 is the first collaborative result of this close association. Like the other Jake Brake® Engine Brakes for DDC® engines, the Model 790 will be supported and serviced by the DDC® distributor and truck dealer network.
