PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

A Jake Brake® By Any Other Name...

Popular Extarder product now known as the Jacobs Exhaust Brake®.

BLOOMFIELD, Conn., April 30, 1997 -- Jacobs Vehicle Systems has changed the name of its exhaust brake from Extarder to Jacobs Exhaust Brake. According to Robert Perkins, director - business development, the change was made to simplify the ordering and specing process, and to better reflect the company-wide support provided by Jacobs Vehicle Systems for all product lines.

The Jacobs Exhaust Brake can harness up to 100 percent of an engine's power to provide reliable supplemental braking performance. It functions by restricting the flow of exhaust gases and increasing back pressure inside the engine. The increased back pressure creates resistance against the pistons, slowing the crankshaft's rotation and ultimately helping to slow a vehicle's momentum.

The product has grown in popularity over the years by allowing for lower maintenance costs and enhancing driver confidence. The Jacobs Exhaust Brake reduces wear on the engine, tires and service brakes. Operators benefit from better, safer braking performance. Every Jacobs Exhaust Brake is custom designed and optimized with the cooperation of the world's leading engine manufacturers, including Caterpiller, Cummins, Detroit Diesel, Mack and International.

Perkins noted that the name change does not affect the Cummins RamBrake by Jacobs® (a vacuum activated brake available as a retrofit option on Dodge Ram Turbo Diesel pickup trucks), or the Cummins Extarder by Jacobs®(available on Cummins B and C Series engines). Those names remain the same.
